Summary
Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Center is seeking a physician-scientist at the rank of Professor to lead the Faris D. Virani Ewing Sarcoma Center, dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for patients with Ewing sarcoma (and other bone tumors) through innovative research involving collaborative multi-disciplinary research teams and initiatives to expedite the rate of discovery (biology, prevention, detection) and subsequent translation to clinical trial activation and completion. The Center's leader will also create a scientific culture and environment that promotes acquisition of peer-reviewed funding. publication of research findings, a learning and mentoring environment that attracts high quality candidates for postdoctoral or other training programs.
Job Duties
Key responsibilities include:
- Working with the Chief of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology to develop a vision for the continued success and growth of the Virani Ewing Sarcoma Center.
- Conducting transformative Ewing sarcoma research in basic, clinical and/or translational science.
- Mentoring junior researchers and successfully promoting their career development.
- Collaborating with administrative staff to maintain support for a high-quality research program.
- Obtaining external support for programmatic research.
Clinical duties will encompass a minority of allocated time and include:
- Managing outpatient and/or inpatient care in a tertiary hospital setting.
- Education and supervision of clinical trainees including fellows, residents, and advanced practice practitioners.
- Serving as a consultant for Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Center physicians at our network of community hospitals.
Minimum Qualifications
- M.D. or equivalent degree
- Demonstrated research track record at the national and international level in pediatric bone tumor research including regular publication in high-impact journals.
- Demonstrated track record of building research teams and collaborations.
- Demonstrated track record of peer-reviewed funding.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, and mentorship skills.
- Dynamic, entrepreneurial leader with passion and energy to drive discovery.
- Ability to develop and advance a strategic vision to develop a premier Ewing sarcoma clinical translational research program.
- Board certified or board eligible for Pediatric Hematology-Oncology boards.
- Prior to employment start date must obtain Texas Medical License and Drug Enforcement Administration registration.
